Donald L. Bates, Founding Director, LAB architecture studio.
Lab architecture studio was awarded the project for Federation Square, Melbourne, Australia after completing a completing a two stage open design competition process.
Unlike the process the Australia Council is currently proposing, the Federation Square competition was truly open as the first stage was submitted
to the jury without any indication as to the identity of the designers or their credentials. Federation Square is internationally regarded as one of Australia's
